Abstract

This article provides numerous examples and arguments for making the revised Program Evaluation Standards a touchstone document in local education agencies. The carefully crafted standards anticipate the questions, dilemmas, and pitfalls that beset LEA research departments and the programs they are asked to evaluate. The revised Standards document is especially important at a time when school-based programs are being questioned and cries for change abound. The Standards can assist LEAs in generating and synthesizing data so that educators can make informed, thoughtful decisions. The challenge is to ensure that the Standards are widely disseminated and appropriately applied.
