The features of two main types of VCO, such as ring RC-VCO and LC-VCO were considered. Circuit design solutions of LC-VCO's was analyzed. a comparative analysis of each circuit designs was carried out. A Clapp VCO with transformer-coupled varactor was identified as a prospective design. This solution decreases the influence varactor's Q-factor on the tank due to the isolation between the bias of transistors and varactors. A schematic diagram of the VCO with transformer-coupled varactor using SiGe technology with topological standards of 0.13 microns, using computer modeling and optimization by the criterion of minimizing the phase noise of the VCO circuit using ADS CAD were obtained. The oscillator features a phase noise of â115 dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset from the carrier, a wide 22.6% tuning range. The oscillator FoM is â191 dBc/Hz. The results allow us to draw a conclusion about the prospects of this design and its applicability in highly integrated transceiver devices.
