Abstract

Paraphilias have been historically a source of taboo and stigma (e.g., Kelsey et al., 2013; Lehmann et al., 2020). This reality not only manifest itself through how people embrace or displays these behaviors and preferences, but is also reflected in the literature where, to this day, sexual research still knows very little about these population and behaviors. For the last 30 years, we have experienced social and political changes leading to a more open and tolerant societies regarding people’s gender, sexual identities and behaviors. Thus, it is likely that people who were raised in different generations experienced different influences during their adolescence and sexual experiences, leading to behave or embrace their identity and preferences according to the times. One phenomenon in which we may reflect the influence of these changes could be people’s first sexual experiences and sexual debut.
