Abstract

Some results of diverse experimental studies aimed at the optimisation of the process parameters of continuous steam treatment of sintered iron are presented in order to show how the compactness and constitution of the oxide layer strongly influence wear resistance. Since these parameters are not in direct correlation with others usually measured in industrial practice, the results presented clearly indicate that a steam treatment quality control procedure must involve careful oxide characterisation.
