Abstract

Objective: This scoping review aims to establish what is known about reproductive justice (RJ) in pediatric health care. Introduction: The concept of RJ has been established for more than 25 years and integrates reproductive rights and social justice into the care of reproductive-age women. However, limited information exists in the scholarly literature about applying the RJ framework to pediatric health care. This review will explore the benefits, barriers, and providers’ perceptions of RJ in the pediatric healthcare setting to address the gaps in scholarly literature and support future reviews. Inclusion criteria: This scoping review will consider English language studies, text, and expert opinions, that include people from birth to 21 and their healthcare providers. The gender of pediatric patients is intentionally non-specific to acknowledge the array of gender identities that present to the pediatric health care setting. Methods: Databases to be searched include CINAHL (EBSCOhost), MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase (Elsevier), and Web of Science Core Collection (Web of Science/Clarivate Analytics). Sources of unpublished studies and gray literature to be searched include MedNar (Mednar.com), ProQuest Dissertation and Theses Science and Engineering Collection (ProQuest). The methods for this review will be consistent with the JBI for scoping reviews. Data extraction will include evidence source details, study methods, and the key findings about reproductive justice in pediatric health care relevant to the review questions. Data will be presented in charts, graphs, and tables that illustrate key findings.
