Abstract

The bidomain and monodomain models are types of nonlinear reaction-diffusion system and are widely used to study cardiac electrical activity. The numerical simulation of these models calls for extremely fine meshes to accurately predict the depolarization and repolarization wave fronts, which leads to huge computational challenges. In this paper, we will show the advantage of a parallel mesh adaptation method for solving the monodomain model. A comparison between parallel adapted and uniform meshes will be presented. The computational efficiency of the proposed methodology is assessed using an example of spiral wave.
