Abstract

The authors summarize the structure of the Betic Cordilleras and the tectonic position of the Ronda, Ojen and other lherzolite massifs in them, as well as the lower Mesozoic ophiolite section. The mafic and ultramafic rocks in the nappe-fold structure of the Betides consist of rocks that were metamorphosed at high pressure and low temperature. The structure of the floor of the Alboran Sea is analyzed, and models of the formation of the Gibraltar arc in the southern part of the Alpine belt are proposed.
