Abstract
- This paper documents a dynamic simulation study of inertial response on the U.S. Eastern Interconnection (EI) in the year 2030. The 2030 EI model features 17% wind penetration, which is mainly located in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) territories. This comparison study looks at the difference in system wide inertial responses between wind and conventional generators by displacing the wind machines with synchronous generators. Simulation results show the impact of reduced inertia due to the wind penetration. The performance of wind inertia control is also studied.
