Abstract
- Due to the use of electrolytic capacitor, the life span and operating temperature range of traditional light emitting diode (LED) drivers are limited. In order to solve these problems, many researchers focus on electrolytic capacitor-less design. In this paper, a new electrolytic capacitor-less LED driver with power factor correction (PFC) function is proposed. By using a coupled inductor, a single-stage topology with optimized energy-flow-path and higher efficiency is proposed. With this new topology, electrolytic capacitor can be replaced by film capacitor with lower capacitance value and longer lifetime so that the life span of the LED driver can be prolonged. Simulation results are presented to verify the proposed design.
