Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Surgery

Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) is a surgical approach that takes the best of minimally invasive surgery and can give the benefit of nearly scarless surgery. The approach poses unique challenges for the most experienced of laparoscopic surgeons, but has demonstrated ability to reduce hospital costs, post-operative pain and narcotic requirement, and even in one series, decrease operative time. Although only retrospective reviews are available, there is no evidence of increased risks or complications associated with LESS pediatric urological surgery. We review technical approaches, supplies, equipment, and considerations for performing LESS surgery in pediatric urology and review published literature on multiple applications.
