Abstract

Measurements are reported of the solubilities of calcium iodate and copper iodate in buffered solutions of sodium glycollate and of calcium iodate in mandelate buffers. Thermodynamic association constants are derived for the formation of the ion-pairs Ca GL + and Gu GL + , at 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45°C and of the species Ca Man + at 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45°C where GL = glycollate, Man = Mandelate. ΔH°, ΔG° and ΔS° are evaluated for the formation reactions of these species. The hydration entropies ΔS hyd . ( MX ) + of these complexes are also calculated.
