Application research of Raman thermometer on quality evaluating of fiber coil

Abstract
- Fiber coil is a kind of key optical component used in fiber optic gyroscope, and its stability and anti-jamming capability directly influence the performance of the whole fiber optic gyroscope. The quadrupolar winding of fiber coil can restrain thermally induced nonreciprocity obviously at ideal conditions; however, various nonideal factors severely limit the advantage of the quadrupolar winding. A novel method for analyzing the quality of the fiber coil using Raman temperature measurement technology is proposed. The nonreciprocity of fiber coil can be judged by analyzing Raman scattering of fiber coil under conditions of varying temperature, and then the quality of winding a coil can be judged. The corresponding experiments have been done to verify the effect this new method. The results show that this non-destructive method has a guiding role to the fiber coil winding method and technology, and also provide a way for evaluating the quality of the fiber coil.
