Abstract
- The event generator VENUS (for Very Energetic Nuclear Scattering) is based on a multistring model for ultrarelativistic hadronic collisions. It is assumed that strings are formed as a consequence of color exchange between the quarks of colliding nucleons, with subsequent independent string fragmentation. We apply VENUS to investigate multiplicity and transverse energy distributions in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at 200 A GeV, leading to some conclusions concerning rescattering of secondaries inside the nuclei.
