Abstract

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has established in Navi Mumbai region an industrial estate which spreads over 2562 hectares with about 3,450 industries. The industrial units cover various categories such as textile, chemical pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides and plastic moulding and fabrication, foundry etc. with varying sizes. All the major & medium industries have provided full-fledged effluent treatment plants and the small industries have only primary effluent treatment units. Thane Belapur Industries Association initiated and promoted formation of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) with 12 MLD capacity in 1997, which was further expanded to 15 MLD in 2006. The partially treated effluents from the industries are carried through closed pipelines to CETP for further treatment. In the present study, treatment efficiencies of CETP at the outlets of primary and secondary stages were determined based on one-year data. Analysis of values of BOD, COD and TSS at discharge point conform to the discharge standards of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) throughout the year.
