Abstract
- Although Anne’s reign coincided with the start of a new century, it made little difference at the time since the Tories treated it as an opportunity to put the political and ecclesiastical clock back. Although they were reasonably successful, notably at Sacheverell’s trail, they became increasingly conscious that the imminent accession of the Hanoverians would result in their eventual sidelining.
