Abstract

THERE is considerable evidence that high soybean oil meal diets are, in general, satisfactory for poults (Headley (1944), Brant et al. (1944), Hammond et al. (1944), Fritz et al. (1947)). It is not clear from the results obtained by these workers what supplements, if any, may be required on high soybean oil meal diets for the most rapid growth. In a detailed study Bird et al. (1948) found that, for starting and growing turkeys, diets containing soybean oil meal as the major protein ingredient, are improved by the addition of fish meal and meat meal. Furthermore, 5 percent dried cow manure or 0.2 percent dl -methionine were fed as supplements during the early stages of growth and found to be effective. Scott et al.
