Abstract

Hemoglobin (Hb) S and C prevalence was determined for several ethnic groups that comprised the population born at our hospital in 1985 by review of data obtained by cord blood screening. The infant's race and nationality were designated as that listed for the mother and prevalence calculated using data available for all births. The rates of FAS and FAC in all White children were higher than previous reports possibly because of the considerable proportion of Hispanics comprising this population.
