Early generation selection of insect resistance in potato

Methods used in breeding and selecting potatoes for resistance to Colorado potato beetle, green peach aphid, potato aphid, and potato leafhopper are reviewed. Sources of resistant germplasm, the nature of resistance, breeding behavior of resistance factors, and methods used to measure resistance are discussed. Specific problems encountered in breeding insect-resistant potatoes are discussed in relation to early-generation selection procedures.
