Threshold and Marginal Curve of Magnetic Faraday Instability

A unidimensional Faraday instability is excited at the surface of a magnetic fluid with a horizontal and alternating magnetic field. The threshold and the marginal curve of the roll instability are theoretically derived and compared to experiment. Finite-size effects of the experimental vessel are investigated and interpreted. The predicted marginal curve is verified experimentally in the bulk limit conditions.
