Abstract
- Ketamine, an NMDA receptor antagonist, has been shown to rapidly treat depressive-like behavior in clinical and pre-clinical studies. To date, its efficacy in treating inflammation-induced depression has not been reported. Here we demonstrate that peripheral administration of ketamine (6 mg/kg, i.p.) immediately prior to peripheral administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (0.83 mg/kg, i.p.) in C57Bl/6J mice abrogates LPS-induced depressive-like behavior. LPS induced a reduction in sucrose preference and increase in immobility in the forced swim test (p NIH R01 MH079829 to R.D. and NIH R01 AG-029573 to K.W.K.
