Abstract

Though digital leisure has the ability to complement the tourist experience, its determinants among inbound tourists remains unestablished. Using data from 634 inbound tourists in Ghana and analysed with multinomial logistic regression, independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance, the study established that digital chatting, digital gaming, watching movies, listening to music and social networking were the main digital leisure activities undertaken. Tourists below 30 years engaged in digital chatting, digital gaming and social networking. Also, married tourists as well as those who travelled alone engaged in digital chatting. Leisure tourists engaged in social networking likewise tourists from Europe and North America. The tourists registered three main concerns on digital leisure: cost, poor digital infrastructure and safety concern. These concerns varied based on sex, continent of origin, purpose of visit and trip organisation. The implications of these findings for destination management, digital product development and management are discussed.
