Abstract

In the laboratory of applied superconductivity of JIHT RAS are steadily in progress works on the optimization by numerical simulation of HTS cables designs with 2G HTS tapes as current-carrying elements. They are aimed to the minimization of AC losses. In this paper are considered designs of flat three-phase cables with the highly extended rectangular cross-section shape. The following methods of optimization are analyzed: using of HTS tapes with the modified configuration, butt end shielding of the cable cross-section and cables sectioning combined with the latter. It has been shown that these methods allow reduction of AC losses in 2 – 14 times vs. the cable design version. For all the designs, at the phase critical current 5.1 kA and rated current 4 kA the level of AC losses obtained does not exceed the natural cryostat heat losses.
