Abstract
- 1. The double bond in 1-vinylbarene is capable of taking part in electrophilic addition reactions, although it has a considerably lower reactivity thanα-olefins. 2. Hydrogen chloride and bromide add to vinylbarene in the presence of AlCl3 according to Markovnikov's rule with the formation of 1-(α-chloroethyl)barene and l-(α-bromoethyl)barene, respectively. 3. The barene and neobarene nuclei undergo thermal chlorination, which takes place similarly to photochemical chlorination.
