Theological Schools in a Socialist State: the Life Work of Metropolitan Grеgory (Chukov)

Based on the materials of articles, memoirs, diary entries, etc. the materials of Archpriest N.K. Chukov (Metropolitan Grеgory) show that he, as a pastor and a public figure of a firm right direction, warned in his articles about what the victory of socialist parties could threaten the country and the Church. At the same time, with the change of the social system, he did not refuse the necessary external contacts with representatives of the established Godfighting Soviet government, which for more than half a century helped him to continue the work of Orthodox spiritual education and preserve spiritual schools for future generations. At the same time, he considered it impossible to adjust the internal structure of his thoughts to another (in this case, socialist) ideology. The metropolitan taught the same to the pupils of the theological schools he opened — academies and seminaries.
