Abstract: This chapter presents the most important paradigms in distributed systems, in a problem-oriented manner, purposely addressed to to-be architects. Namely, the chapter addresses: naming and addressing; message passing; remote op-erations; group communication; time and clocks; synchrony; ordering; coordi-nation; consistency; concurrency; and atomicity. Paradigms are motivated by showing their problem-solving potential and also their limitations.
