Abstract

Humans have made baneful effects on the environment via agricultural, industrial, and domestic activities of the system, causing glitches such as global warming, greenhouse gases, and the generation of wastewater containing high levels of pollutants. Wastewater treatment systems are always useful to the environment and society in the way of removing organic and inorganic contaminants. Biological wastewater treatment systems are one of the best options to treat wastewater by microorganisms. Power generation or electricity occurs from the microorganism when it oxidizes the substrate and releases the electrons, which is termed as microbial fuel technologies. This book chapter explains the cutting-edge of recent updates, challenges on waste treatment systems, and power generation. During wastewater treatment it creates the energy carriers, for example, biohydrogen and microbial fuel technologies, which are used for power generation.
