Abstract

This multiauthored book is the 24th in the Hahnemann Symposia series and offers a thorough examination of the problem of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. The book is written in 51 chapters arranged into seven sections: pathogenesis, pathology, pathophysiology, angina pectoris: diagnosis, angina pectoris: treatment and prognosis, myocardial infarction, myocardial infarction: treatment and prognosis. This logical organization enhances the systematic development and presentation of the latest information available on this most important of all problems in cardiology. The seventh Hahnemann Symposium was also devoted to coronary heart disease. A comparison of these works provides a measure of progress and lack of it made in the decade separating the publication of these books. Our concepts of the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis have the visage of old age, characterized by a paucity of new ideas that have been presented and represented for the last 70 years.
