Abstract

DIBAL-H reduction of cedren-8 (15)-en-9α-ol 3 in refluxing xylene affords an unusual saturated sesquiterpene skeleton 4 resulting from the ring contraction of the α-methylene cyclohexanol moiety into an ethyl cyclopentane ring.
