Abstract

New studies and strategies are under development for mosquito control. The resulting new information might be evaluated and shared with the local population. They must face the possibility that those strategies will result in increased numbers of mosquitoes in local houses, gardens, and streets. Here is presented a brief collection of studies using this kind of technology and the outcomes from the public engagement used by them, from failures as in India to the one demonstrating a lot of success in Brazil. We describe the set of activities and discuss about the need to adapt any action plan to every target population. Based on the Brazilian experience, contrasted against Cayman Island, the most important characteristic that shifts from a good community engagement is the lack of transparency and distance from local population.
