Abstract
- Broadcasting systems with a transport mechanism for IP packets enable enriched multimedia services when used in conjunction with telecommunication services. We have proposed a multiplexing scheme named “TLV” for the efficient transport of IP packets on advanced satellite broadcasting system. We have also proposed a transport mechanism for IP packets on ISDB-TSB, which is a terrestrial multimedia broadcasting system for mobile reception. The transmission characteristics of these transport mechanisms for IP packets need to be examined prior to developing IP-based broadcasting applications. This paper describes our experiments on the transmission systems of the advanced satellite broadcasting system and ISDB-TSB to show the efficient transmission rate and effective delay variation. The results demonstrate that, on the advanced satellite broadcasting system, more than 99% of the transmission capacity is available for applications and the transmission delay variation is quite small. On ISDB-TSB, approximately 80\% of the transmission capacity is available and the delay variation is also small.
