Abstract
- The effects of the nominal batch composition on the NdBa2Cu3Oy (Nd123) single crystals grown by a flux method were investigated. The single crystals of Nd123 were prepared by the slow cooling at a rate of 1°C/h from 1100°C to 960°C with various nominal batch compositions. Thicker crystals along c-axis could be obtained for the batches with Ba-richer compositions. Although all Nd123 crystals were non-superconducting above 10 K in a SQUID magnetization measurement due to Al contamination from Al2O3 crucible, thicker crystals could be applied as good seed crystals for the fabrication of large textured YBa2Cu3Oy (Y123) bulks.
