Abstract
- Our purpose is to clarify the significance of viewing time while fixating on a certain point of an image. A new sight-line displacement analyzer has been developed that limits the subject's viewing time by inserting a masking pattern in his focusing area. Eye movement was analyzed while the subject counted circles in a pattern filled with distractors. The mean fixation duration during this counting, which corresponds to the counting processing time, was about 350 msec. Counting was executed fairly accurately when a mask was presented at 66 msec after fixation was detected. Results indicate that visual information can be acquired in less than 66 msec.
