The Synthesis of 8-Amino-6-N-methyl-1,2,3,5,6,7-hexaazaacenaphthylene

The protected tricyclic heterocycle 8-amino-6-N-methyl-2-(tetrahydropyran-2-yl)-1,2,3,5,6,7-hexaazaacenaphthylene (11) was prepared from 3-cyano-4,6-bis-methylthiopyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine in a six-step reaction sequence. Treatement of 11 with hydrogen chloride gas under anhydrous conditions has afforded 8-amino-6-N-methyl-1,2,3,5,6,7-hexaazaacenaphthylene in a moderate yield.
