Abstract: The axion “haloscope” technique is a well-established method to search for dark matter axions with a resonant microwave cavity and has excluded axion models over several frequency ranges with unparalleled sensitivity. This chapter describes the basics of microwave cavity searches, including overviews of the main experimental components and details on the figure of merit for these searches.
