Abstract

In the course of a histological study of the digestive tract of the chick the following observations were made on the time of absorption of the yolk material in chicks hatched and reared under various conditions. In all cases the birds were fed on a chick starter ration which has given excellent results. In order to observe any histological differences which might occur in the digestive tract due to environmental condition a number of Barred Plymouth Rock chicks were hatched and reared in the following manner: Especial care was taken to ensure that the batteries and brooder stoves were kept at the correct temperatures, in order to rule out any possibility of internal disturbances due to overheating or chilling.
