(Fig. 4) Female: Body worm like, 146 long, shield 26 long, 40 wide, shield lobe absent; shield design with median line from base to basal 3 / 4, admedian lines complete, with 3 transverse line at basal 1 / 4, half and basal 3 / 4, form 5 cells at each lateral sides; scapular tubercles located near lateral margins of shield, set ahead of rear shield margin, scapular seta (sc) 7 long, directed to outer and upward, Dt-Dt 34 apart. Legs: tibiae fused with tarsi; coxal area smooth; 1 st coxal seta (1 b) and tubercles absent, 2 nd coxal seta (1 a) 6 long, Ct 2 -Ct 2 8 apart, 3 rd coxal seta (2 a) 9 long, Ct 3 -Ct 3 20 apart, Ct 2 \Ct 3 15, Ct 2 -Ct 3 8; solenidion ending as knob; empodium simple, 5 rayed. Opisthosoma: dorsum flattened, dorsal annuli with 48 rings, 1 st 3 dorsal annuli 4 long; ventral annuli with 61 microtuberculate rings; lateral seta (c 2) 20 long, Lt-Lt 40 apart, Lt\Vt 1 40, Lt-Vt 1 20; 1 st ventral seta (d) 36 long, Vt 1 -Vt 1 29 apart, Vt 1 \Vt 2 33, Vt 1 -Vt 2 27; 2 nd ventral seta (e) 7 long, Vt 2 -Vt 2 12 apart, Vt 2 \Vt 3 31, Vt 2 -Vt 3 28; 3 rd ventral seta (f) 15 long, Vt 3 -Vt 3 15 apart; accessory seta (h 1) absent. Epigynium: 19 wide, 11 long, with granules at base, genital seta (3 a) 6 long, Gt-Gt 15 apart. Male: not seen. Type data: Holotype , Taipei: Yangmingshan (680m; N 25 10E 121 34), 18 -Aug.- 1999, Huang & Wang; ex Melastoma candidum D. Don (Melastomataceae). (deposited at NMNS). Paratypes, 3 , data same as for holotype. Relation to host: A vagrant on the lower leaf surface. No apparent damage was observed. Remarks: This new species is close to N. wendlandiae Wei et Qin, 2002 by the shield design with median line from base to basal 3 / 4, and form 6 cells between admedian lines. This new species differs from N. wendlandiae by the following characters: the shield design with 5 cells on each lateral side, and the 3 -rayed empodium. Etymology: The specific designation is derived from the locality Taiwan , in reference to this being the first species of Nothopoda Keifer, 1951 found in Taiwan.
Published as part of Huang, Kun-Wei & Wang, Chin-Fah, 2009, Eriophyoid mites (Acari: Eriophyoidea) of Taiwan: thirty-seven species from Yangmingshan, including one new genus and twenty-two new species, pp. 1-50 in Zootaxa 1986 on page 10, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.185424
{"references":["Wei, S-G. & Qin, A. - Z.
