Abstract

The purpose was identify the attitudes of health professionals in the educational practices regarding Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Care. Took part in the study 60 health professionals from 8 basic health units of Belo Horizonte -MG, in 2012. Evaluation was performed through a specific questionnaire: the professional attitudes to answer complaints and goals of the patients in relation to diet and physical activity. There was a prevalence of a anti-dialogue scheme from the part of health professionals, where dialogue is used as a tool to solve problems about diabetes and dictate behavior in relation to self-care practices. That results in poor communication, influencing the users’ autonomy and suppresses the expression of feelings about the disease. Thus, we highlight the importance of new attitude in educational practices involving a fundamental redefinition on the roles and relationships of users and professionals, in order to explore issues related to treatment, personalize the problem, help users clarify their values related health, set goals, develop users’ engagement with a specific plan to achieve their goals on self-care which is required by diabetes.
