Abstract
- Based on the techniques of surface mechanical attrition treatment, laminated and nanostructured materials with high strength and high ductility can be produced. In order to capture the deformation behaviour and associated damage initiation/evolution process in the layered surface mechanical attrition treated 304SS (stainless steel), a cohesive model is employed into finite element method to investigate the effects of the constituent materials on the overall strength and ductility of layered surface mechanical attrition treated 304SS in the present paper. It is found that the normal cohesive strength, tangential cohesive strength and fracture energy of both the nanograin layer and the surface mechanical attrition treated 304SS layer have a significant influence on the failure strain of layered corolled surface mechanical attrition treated 304SS. Simulation results also indicate that the layered bonded surface mechanical attrition treated 304SS may be superior to the layered corolled surface mechani...
