ESR and optical spectral studies of γ-irradiated lithium acetate dihydrate

Abstract

Gamma irradiation of lithium acetate dihydrate single crystals at room temperature reveals initially an intense ESR signal due to CH2CO−2 radicals. On standing, these radicals disappear and RCHCO−2 radicals are formed. UV and IR absorption spectra of irradiated crystal samples are discussed and correlated with the postulated CH2CO−2 and RCHCO−2 radicals.
