Thirty years of experimental electron–electron (e,2e) coincidence studies: achievements and perspectives

(e,2e) experimental studies are reviewed. As a tribute to Chris Brion, the emphasis is put on the experimental birth and infancy of electron momentum spectroscopy, as well as on early, well established achievements in (e,2e) dynamics studies. The limits of our understanding of these processes are drawn and exemplified through selected results.
