Abstract

autoimmune disorder which affects many organ systems including the skin, joints and internal organs. Cutaneous lupus diseases can have a diverse clinical presentation but are unified by a specific histopathological pattern, namely, a lymphocytic interface dermatitis with prominent basilar keratinocyte death by apoptosis (Fig. 1). The skin can also be involved by other pathomechanisms such as the lupus vasculitis sometimes associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
