Black Hole Formation in High Energy Particle Collisions

In this chapter we describe how black holes form in the high energy collision of two particles. The challenge lies in establishing that a closed trapped surface forms during that collision. Remarkably, it is possible to construct such a surface analytically for a \(3+1\) dimensional space-time. This construction can be extended into the semi-classical regime.
