Abstract

System case studies are required for the analysis and evaluation of various microgrid operating scenarios and contingencies, for real time operation, and energy management of the generation, storage, and loads within the microgrid, in islanded and grid‐connected modes. The studies can be categorized into eight different areas. This chapter briefly explains these areas, which include operational planning, economic and technical feasibility, policy and regulatory framework, power‐quality, stability, microgrid design, communication and SCADA system, and testing and evaluating studies. Operation, planning, and design studies require serious consideration when planning microgrid integration. Economic and technical feasibility studies are done to assess and verify the economic viability of the microgrid project for whichever business case it is being designed. Power‐quality studies are important for the microgrid to provide high‐quality power to the loads that may be critical. Stability studies provide designers with the points of operation that bring the system closer to, or push it toward instabilities.
