Thoracic Deformity after the Cardiac Surgery

Abstract

Of 750 patient with congenital heart defects who were operated on at the Kyushu Welfare Pension Hospital, forty-one visited orthopedic clinic.Their complaint was pectus carinatum like deformity after the surgery. The ages of the patients at visit ranged from two years and five months.Specially designed short celloid jackets were made to correct their deformities.The average length of follow-up was three years and four months. The effect of these brace was satisfactory.In many of them, slight but significant thoracic scoliosis was detected.
