The growing importance of and demand for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody testing [ 1 ] and the complex medical, psychological, ethical and social issues this testing raises [2] require physicians to be prepared to counsel their patients about HIV infection and antibody testing. Since medical literature contains little in the way of specific guidelines for counselling and education relating to HIV antibody testing, this book has been prepared to provide physicians and other health care professionals with this information.
