Abstract

In recent years Navier-Stokes methods have rapidly improved. Pressure distributions and aerodynamic coefficients for transport aircraft in crusing flight conditions can be calculated in a sufficient way. Encouraged by these achievements aircraft designers aim to use these methods to determine aerodynamic derivatives in order to make predictions for the handling qualities of a configuration at the stage of design. In this paper a method for the determination of the horizontal stabilizer efficiency is described. The steps of mesh generation and validation of the calculations are shown. It is analyzed whether the quality of numerical results is sufficient to determine horizontal stabilizer efficiency.
