Abstract
- Dimethylsulfoxide is found to be an effective solvent for solution growth of large mercuric iodide crystals. Solvent properties, crystal growth and characterization, and nuclear detector properties are dis-cussed. When tested as nuclear radiation detectors, solution-grown crystals did not function as well as vapor-grown crystals.
