Abstract
- For many large metropolitan areas, gross land area, stratified by broad land-use categories, such as residential, commercial, industrial, and open space, is usually the only readily obtainable data outside the central business district. Need exists for reliable techniques that can be used for trip-attraction estimation for such urban areas. This paper presents a set of equations that have been calibrated, using multiple linear regression analysis, to compute zonal person-trip attractions for various trip purposes as a function of gross land area. For each trip-purpose, equations have been further stratified by pseudo-employment density ranges and dummy variables that reflect the presence of major trip attractors capable of satisfying the trip purpose in question. For zones falling within very high density areas, equations have been calibrated as a function of zonal gross floor area. Equations have also been developed for estimating zonal nonhome-based and truck trip ends.
