Abstract

Main objective of this paper is to suggest an electricity generation system based on renewable energy sources to fulfill the electrical demand of remote villages of a developing country like Bangladesh. The suggested system is composed of photovoltaic array, fuel cell stack, electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank. This system will replace the conventional method of storing energy by introducing hydrogen storage system. The system is known as Solar PV-Hydrogen Fuel cell system. The optimization and the simulation of the proposed system were performed with Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) software. In order to determine the optimal combination of the system, different combinations of PV arrays, Fuel cell, Electrolyzer and Hydrogen storage tank were selected on the basis of the Net Present Cost (NPC).
