Abstract
- Transition of Indian economy from an inward looking, public sector dominated developmental state to a more market oriented one through an increased integration with the outside world is bringing newer challenges. Planners require new skills, especially in the areas of urban governance to play their rightful role in shaping Indian cities. To do that, there is an urgent need to revisit the way planning is taught in the country. In this chapter, we suggest specific changes to be effected in the syllabus and the course structure through incorporation of new analytical and conceptual frameworks and also closer integration between theory and studio exercises.
